Fluency: The ability to read accurately, quickly, and smoothly with expression
Fluency Strategies
Feel free to talk with your child's teacher about any fluency strategy listed below.
-
Rereading Familiar Texts: This strategy helps students read with greater fluency, allowing them to gain confidence with words and solidify new learning. Reading fluently allows a student to comprehend more too as they can give more attention to making sense of what they have read instead of decoding words.

-
Adjust Reading Rate: Just like we don't always drive the same speed in the car, readers don't always read everything at the same speed. Great readers know to change their reading rate (speed) depending on what they are reading

-
Punctuation Marks: When we talk to someone, we usually say words in phrases and our voice can change too. We do this so that it is easier for the person we are talking to to understand us. Reading is the same way - you want it to sound like you are talking.
. - Full stops, plunge your voice
? - Raise your voice
! - Expressive voice
